In addition to research and development work, NECTEC has continually undertaken a number of pilot projects that greatly contribute to building and strengthening the country's IT infrastructure. These pilot projects are as follows:

1. Printed Circuit Technology Research and Service Center
The Printed Circuit Technology Research and Service Center conducts R&D activities of high quality printed circuits at reasonable time and cost. IT provides printed circuit design and assembly, master film and prototyping, printed circuit board (PCB) and printed circuit industry database. The center is also responsible for organizing operational training and the dissemination of PCB technology to the public.

2. Electrical and Electronic Products Testing Center (PTEC)
PTEC is the first electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS) laboratory in Thailand. It was established in 1988 under the cooperation of the NECTEC, King MongkutÕs University of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) and the NSTDA. The center provides testing services for manufacturers in accordance with international standard requirements. It also provides consultancy services in solving electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) problems as well as EMC training courses and seminars. (http://ptec.nectec.or.th/)

3. Thai Social/Scientific Academic and Research Network - ThailandÕs Next Generation Internet (ThaiSARN-3)
NECTEC set up a nationwide network called ThaiSARN in order to promote the use of Internet in Thailand. ThaiSARN is currently in its third generation, denoted as ThaiSARN-3, where the main mission is to promote research in networking technologies and applications. At present, ThaiSARN-3 is currently connected to three major international research networks: Scientific Information Network (SINET) of Japan; Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN); and Internet-2. (http://www.thaisarn.net.th/)

4. IT Legal Infrastructure Development
Thailand has determined to legislate six new laws to embrace information technology since 1998. They are the Electronic Transactions Law, Electronic Signature Law, Computer Crime Law, Data Protection Law, Electronic Funds Transfer Law, and the National Information Infrastructure Law. The Cabinet appointed NECTEC to be responsible for the drafting process of these laws. At present, the Electronic Transactions Law was promulgated on April 3, 2002 while the others are in the process of enactment. (http://www.nict.go.th)

5. e-Government
5.1 Government Information Technology Services (GITS)
GITS is a part of the e-Government Project developed by NECTEC. To facilitate the e-Government electronic workflow, the Government Information Network (GINet) is regarded as the core element of GITS to assist in linking each agency to the network and to deliver e-Government services to people throughout the country. Not only to support the paperless-office concept, but the e-Government project also aims to introduce the idea of one-stop services in government organizations. (http://www.gits.net.th/)

5.2 e-Government Infrastructure
e-Government Project has formulated the e-Government framework for implementing electronic government and a guideline for reprocessing the administration and services of public organizations. The project covers the encouragement of government sectors to participate in e-Government and the provision of principle guidance and procedures for government agencies restruction. It also facilitates government agencies to develop standards, guiding principles, and framework for interoperability and electronic services.

6. E-Commerce
Electronic Commerce Resource Center (ECRC) was set up by the approval of the Cabinet in 1998. It aims to advance electronic commerce development in Thailand to be internationally competitive, and to continuously create the foundation of development for readiness and strength in electronic commerce. Its concrete objectives are to create public awareness and understanding, to be the center of information resource, and to create human capacity in electronic commerce.

7. Information Security
At present, the Internet is widely used. Simultaneously, computer crime has been increasing, and immensely causing damages to computer systems and users. To respond to this incident , the Thai Computer Emergency Response Team, called ÒThaiCERT, was set up to be responsible for incident response, advisory, security audit and public awareness. The unit is in the process of expansion to cover more activities such as news and situations regarding security in using computers and creating public awareness. (http://thaicert.nectec.or.th)
